Of 975 patients, 571 (59%) had either deformity or disfigurement or were bacteriologically positive while 404(41%) were free from these disabilities. 2. Of 975 patients, 207 cases (21.2%) were bacteriological positive. 3. Deformities of the extremities were observed in 574 cases (58.9%) and among them 234 cases(24%) had deformities in upper extremity, 48 cases (4.9%) in lower and 292 cases (30%) had in both. 4. Of 1950 arms, 899 arms (46.2%) had one or the other deformity; 37(1.9%) had wrist-drop and 708 hands (36.4%) had loss of pinching power; of 9750 fingers, 2998(30.8%) were claw fingers and 1264 (12.9%) were irreductable fingers. 5. Out of 571 cases, 127 were not fit for surgery because of very gross deformities: 392 (40%) were in such a stage that reconstructive and plastic surgery would improve their physical condition but not completely; and 52 (5.3%) could by reconstructive and plastic surgery be restored almost to their previous normal physical condition. |
