¿ä¾à Paralytic lagophthalmos and ectropion by leprosy are serious complication of facial
paralysis, which may lead to exposure keratitis and corneal ulceration.
Various treatments have been available, but still there is no consensus about which is
most effective. 38 patients with facial palsy were operated from May, 1992 to Oct, 1995.
Temporalis muscle fascia transfer in 11 patients, gold lid loading in 5 cases of 4
patients for lagophthalmos were done. For correction of ectropion, medial canthoplasty in
15 cases, lateral canthoplasty in 12 cases and horizontal shortening in 7 cases were
performed.
I have noted that gold implantation and temporalis muscle fascia transfer with
simultaneous canthoplasty and horizontal lid shortening successfully corrected the
lagophthalmos and ectropion by facial nerve palsy in leprosy.
