¿ä¾à The issues concerning the quality of life of the disabled are increasingly addressed in
the rehabilitation field. In sorokdo, there are more and more proportions of the disabled
among the leprosy patients, despite decreasing numbers of the whole population. To
evaluate present status of rehabilitation in Sorokdo and investigate the relationship
between life satisfaction and disability, functional assessment using the Functional
Independence Measure( FIM ) was performed and the degree of satisfaction with life in
general was assessed by one of four options : not satisfied, more satisfied than not
satisfied, fairly well satisfied, very well satisfied. Eighty subjects dwelling in a
community were included in the study.
Mean score of general life satisfaction was 1.83. Gender, age, martial status,
educational level, and vocation didn't affect the subject¡¯s life satisfaction. Mean value
of FIM total score was 108.26. The highest mean score among all FIM items was 6.66
in ¡®bladder management¡¯and the lowest was 5.21 in ¡®star¡¯. There was no
significant correlation of life satisfaction with FIM total score but with 3 FIM items ¡®
eating¡¯, ¡®dressing lower body¡¯, ¡®toilet transfer¡¯, in decreasing order.
