The term, Subclinical infection", is already familiar with us. The term, Subclinical abnormalities", however may sound somewhat unfamiliar. It indicates the findings which are not clear enough for the diagnosis of leprosy, and yet not normal such as slightly enlarged superficial nerves with/without tenderness, hypoesthetic skin, hypo/hyperchromatic Patches on the skin,. scanty eyebrows, unconscious burn/burn scar anti so on. These indefinite abnormalities have been noticed by many clinical or field workers as fluctuating abnormalities in leprosy contacts. Our observations and studies are mainly focused on these subclinical of abnormalities. In Tainan, Taiwan, where Obara worked for 3 years from 1966 when DDS monotherapy was the main treatment yet, household contacts were examined as routinely done every where. New cases The results are analysed as follow-up, in some got more prominent to be showed fluctuation or persisted without changes. Our follow-up examination has been continued on the hypothesis that case of leprosy infection. there are observable subclinical abnormalities, even though the disease does not become manifest. These findings may be called as subclinical manifestation of leprosy. We tried to prove this hypothesis though our clinical our clinical and field services |
