¿ä¾à M. leprae is the only bacterium invades peripheral nerves, and the bacilli travel
intra-axonally like fish migrating stream and evolve ascending neuritis. Central nervous
system is known as a inviolable organ in leprosy and, a old term "Bulbar palsy" became
a lapse memory.
We experienced six cases considered as cranial nerves be invaded, five diagnosed as
neural relapse and one as untreated BT Leprosy with neuritis.
1. On analysis of revealed symptoms, facial nerve(¥¶), glossopharyngeal none(?) and
trigeminal nerve(¥´) are obviously involved and, vagus nerve(X) and hypoglossus nerve
are suspected as well.
2. All manifested symptoms are acute and incontrollable with drugs such as
prednisolone or pain killers and, recovered by anti-leprosy drug administration for about
two years respectively.
3. On effectiveness of rifampicin, no difference is noticed between daily administration
and that of intermittently given.
