Epidermiological studies were done on 154 patients detected and confirmed as leprosy patients at the Department of Dermatology at Chonnam University Hospital for ten years from 1979 to 1988. Statistically, 93 cases were male and 61 cases were female, comprising 0.38% of total number of outpatients (41,058), which showed a tendence of decrease yearly. The percentage of each group or type of tuberculoid, borderline, lepromatous and indeterminate was 50.0%, 18.2%, 27.9% and 39%, respectively. The most common age of both male and female was 40-49 with the largest group being adult aged 20-49, 84 cases(54.5%). The sex ratio was 1.5:1, male to female. However, for the lepromatous type the ratio was 2.1:1, which was higher than that of the tuberculoid type 1.5:1. By disease type, the most common age group was 40-49 for tuberculoid type, 5059 for lepromatous type, 10-19 and 40-49 for indeterminate group. We also observed some significant seqeuntial changes of the disease discovered even though 10 years is a relatively short period. The was a tendency towards decreased detection of the tuberculod and lepromatous types and increased detection of boderline and indeterminate groups. |
