¿ä¾à The serological activities of the specific phenolic glycolipid-1 from Mycobacterium
leprae were examined by MLPA (Microtiter Particle Agglutination) using NT-P-BSA
against sera from 554 patents with leprosy, 125 contacts and 104 normal persons as
control group.
The results obtained were summerized as follows:
1. The mean absorbance of anti-PGL 1 IgM tested by ELISA was related to the
maximum sera dilution titers of positive result by microtiter particle agglutination.
2. The positive rate of microtiter particle agglutination was 61.4% in 415
multibacillary, 36.0% in 139 paucibacillary leprosy patients, 7.2% in 125 contacts and
6.7% in 104 normal control persons and the highest in multibacillary group.
3. The microtiter particle agglutination was positive in 40.5% of 304 BI negative,
74.1% of 27 BI 1+, 61.4% of 44 BI 2+, 72.1% of 61 BI 31, 80.0% of 55 BI 41, 80.4% of
46 BI 5+ and 58.8% of 17 BI 61 cases.
4. Concordance between two serological tests (microtiter particle agglutination and
ELISA) was 83.9% in total tested cases, 93.9% in multibacillary, 77.0% in paucibacillary
leprosy patients, 88.0% in contacts and 87.5% in normal control group. Chisquare test
showed significant different between two serological tests, so ELISA was more
sensitive.
