The ESR from a total of 83 leprosy patients (37 ENL cases,22 plantar ulcer cases with bone damage and 24 control leprosy patients) has been studied by sex, type, age and tile severity of ENL. The results obtained waft summarized as follows: 1. The ESR of 24 control leprosy patients (2.5§®) was within normal values. The ESR of the female control group (4.8§®) was faster than that of the male group (2.1§®). 2. The ESR of 37 ENL leprosy patients (24.7§®) was higher than the control group. The ESR of the female ENL patients (35.5§®) was very much higher than that of male group (19.6§®). There was a correlation between the severity of ENL and able height of the ESR. The ESR of the Non-ENL group showed 6.1§®, the mild ENL group 12.8§®, the moderate ENL group 27.4§® and the severe ENL group 39.0§®. 3. The ESR of 22 ulcer cases with bone damage (29.2§®) showed much higher than the control cases. The ESR of the female cases (42.1§®) were also increased over that of the male (21.9§®). In addition to X-ray, the ESR test was necessary in ulcer cases because tile ESR increased in relation to bone damage. |
