¿ä¾à Neutrophil phagocytosis test from total 50 cases (40 leprosy patients, 10 nornlal
control persons) have been studied by control and type, sex, age, WBC count and the
following results were obtained.
The neutrophil percent ingested M. leprae (25.6%) in 40 leprosy patients is slight low
compared with that (31.3%) of 10 normal persons and is 29.5% in 10 TT, 29.5% in 10
BT, 20.4% in 10 BL and 22.8% in 10 LL cases by type. The neutrophil percent ingested
M. leprae of 28 male (26.6%,) and 22 female (26.8%) cases showed no difference, By
age, phagocytosis was shown 49% in under 20 age group, 25.6% in 21-40 age group,
23.1% in 41-60 age group and 39.7% in over 61 age group. Phagocytosis of normal
WBC count group (26.4%, 2.5 AFB) was high than increased WBC count group (17.5%,
1.5 AFB). Neutrophils contain mean AFB number from 2 to 3 per cell. (range: 1-14
AFB) It was seemed that there is no relation between leprosy and the neutrophil
phagocytosis of killed M. leprae.
