¿ä¾à In order to find out the relapse cases among the patients who have been treated for a
long duration in the resettlement villages, careful and detailed clinical and bacteriological
examinations for 430 cases were done and the following results were obtained
1. Among 430 cases examined, 36 cases were relapsed and the relapse rate showed
8.4%.
2. These relapse cases were mainly appeared from lepromatous and borderline leprosy
patients but not from tuberculoid and indeterminate leprosy patients.
3. Relapse cases were more frequently found from irregularly treated group than
regularly treated group, Relapse rate showed 13.6% and 3.6% respectively.
4. Relapse cases were mere frequently appeared from low dose treatment group than
from full dose treatment group. Relapse rate showed 12.5% and 3.8% respectively.
5. Relapse cases were not found among those who have been treated less than 5
years.
In 36 relapse cases, the duration of treatment before relapse was between 6-35 years.
Average duration of treatment before relapse among: 36 relapse cases was 23.3 years.
