The immune function of lepromatous leprosy against Mycobacterium leprae is identified to be depressed in contrast to that of tuberculous leprosy by many techniques. In this paper, we report the results of the study in which the state of immune activity was investigated indirectly by measuring the activity of adenosine deaminase (ADA), an enzyme which is known to be decreased in activity in immune deficiency diseases, in the serum of leprous patients. There is no conspicuous difference in ADA activity between lepromatous and tuberculous leprosy of treated and untreated. |
