Survey on the Incidence of Leprosy in Geoje Island |

18,675 school children and 140 family contacts with known leprosy patients were examined and the following results were obtained. 1. No leprosy patients were found among school children. 2. 5 patients with early signs of leprosy were detected among contacts; 2 cases were tuberculoid and 3 indeterminate, and all of them were male. 3. The incident rate of leprosy in Geoje Island were 0.27 in 1,000 population of survey. 4. The trend of leprosy in Geoje Island is going toward better situation and the known leprosy patients registered have been decreasing and the incidence of leprosy has been decreased. 5. In order to detect early leprosy cases, contacts examination is effective than school examination. |
