In this study, warm and cold skin sites on a group of 30 selected lepromatous cases were tested to deterftine the different degrees of M. leprae multiplication in warm and cold skin sites. A. Data: Body temperature and bacillary index are as shown below: Warm site Skull 34.4¡É 0.7+ Axilla 36.4¡É(Max.) 0.1+ Cold site Elbow 33.2¡É 2.8+ Arm 33.1¡É 3.7+ Buttock 31.9¡É 2.4+ Foot 31.4¡É(Min.) 2.3+ Comments: 1. There is a greater multiplication of M. leprae and more numerous skin lesions on cold sites of skin than on warm sites of skin. 2. The temperature of the atmosphere is a factor influencing the multiplication and growth of M. leprae. 3. The kinds of skin lesions appearing in lepromatous type of leprosy result because of differences of adequate temperature for multiplication of M. leprae. B. Data: The difference says the body temperatures between ENL factor area and its rounding area are as shown below: Fore arm : 1. 5¡É Thigh : 1.0¡É Knee : 1.1¡É Comments: The temperature in ENL is 1.2¡É higher than its rounding area of skin. |
