Recently hypertension showed rapidly increasing tendency in its frequency and mortality rate due to its complications. Authors could observe the abuse of steroids or A. P. C. for neuritis and arthritis in leproty patients, which made it necessary to review clinical essence and epidemic factors of hypertension. The following results were obtained by observation for hypertension on the inpatients of 2,035 at National Sorokdo Leprosy center in September, 1975. 1. The frequency of hypertension in the leprosy patients was not higher than the ordinary Koreans. 2. The frequency of hypertension was not in relation with the duration of admission and the disease type. 3. Mean blood pressure of the leprosy patients with hypertensive symptoms was 169.8/94.5 mmHg, which showed markedly higher pulse pressure than the mean blood pressure of 155.6/109.2mmHg in ordinary hypertensive patients. 4. The age distribution of the hypertensive leprosy patients fell into the range of forty to sixty years of age, which showed no differences from that of the ordinary patients. 5. The hypertensive leprosy patients showed markedly higher rate of positive urinary protein and sugar than the non-leprosy hypertensive patients in the same area. 6. The systolic blood pressure was significantly higher in the group of massive prolonged administration of the steroid and A.P.O. preparations than in the groups of no administration. |
