¿ä¾à With the view of evaluating the general public attitude toward the anti-leprosy
activities of our government, opinions have been surveyed of 6,945 provincials and 1,309
leprosy patients in resettlement at Chonbuk province.
A. Opinions of the general Public:
1. Although the general public recognize leprosy as an infectious yet curable disease,
their cooperation and understanding for anti-leprosy activities are still scarce.
2. Topographically, the urbans with the benefit of education are less cooperative than
the rurals.
3. Despite their good medical knowledge of leprosy, their social understanding and
active participation in anti-leprosy campaign are weak. The most noteworthy is their
ignorance for rehabilitation of cured ex-leprosy patients and return to social life.
B. Opinions of the ex-leprosy patients in resettlement:
1. Most of them are eager to build their own home and to lead a colony life with
cooperative club.
2. Desire for self-support and rehabilitation is much more active than ever, but their
attitudes for dependence on economical aids from government and other agencies are
still dominant.
