¿ä¾à A total population survey for the detection of leprosy cases in Wolsung Gun, one of
highly endemic area of leprosy in Korea, was conducted from April 1963 to December
1965. The casefinding Methods applied in the survey were evaluated in regards to the
case detection tate, personnel and financial requirements, and their applieabilities for a
large scats project. At the same time recommendations and suggestions were trade on
the ease-finding methods to be used at the present and on the ones to be applied in the
future.
1. By school survey 6 leprosy cases were discovered out of 37,035 examinee (the case
detection rate: 0.081 per 1,000 examinee), by open skin clinic Method 29 out of 11,865
(2.444¢¶), by house-to-house survey 172 out of 130,431 (1.318¢¶) by notification Method
131 out of 1,647(79.538¢¶), by on the way method 30 out of 71 (422.535¢¶), and by
voluntary attendance 7 out of 35(200¢¶).
2. Recommendations and suggestions were made on the priority in the selection of
case-finding methods to be applied by leprosy mobile teams and leprosy case workers
at the present, and on the necessity and practicality of including leprosy ease-finding
activity in mass X-ray check for tuberculosis control, in mass trestmeat in rural areas
through local health centers and in physical examination of military recruites.
